INDIANA , IN, UNITED STATES, August 28, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Templar LLC, an Indiana-based advanced technology firm, announced it has been selected by AFWERX for a $1.2 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Direct-to-Phase II contract. Templar's technology focused on Flush Air Data Systems (FADS) for hypersonic vehicles to address the most pressing challenges in the Department of the Air Force (DAF).

Daniel R. Millman, Executive Vice-President for Hypersonic Systems, said, “Templar considers FADS a crucial technology for maneuvering hypersonic systems and we’re excited AFWERX is asking us to mature this technology for the warfighter.”

The contract marks Templar’s first SBIR award and represents a significant milestone in the companys growth as a defense innovator. Building on years of experience in advanced sensing, test and evaluation, and aerospace engineering, Templar is positioned to deliver a next-generation solution with dual-use potential for military and commercial high-speed systems.

The Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX have partnered to streamline the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) process by accelerating the small business experience through faster proposal to award timelines, changing the pool of potential applicants by expanding opportunities to small business and eliminating bureaucratic overhead by continually implementing process improvement changes in contract execution. The DAF began offering the Open Topic SBIR/STTR program in 2018 which expanded the range of innovations the DAF funded and now on February 8, 2024, Templar LLC will start its journey to create and provide innovative capabilities that will strengthen the national defense of the United States of America.
